Brooke Sommers received a Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology from the University of Denver in 2009 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2007. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. She is also listed as a Full Operating Level Evaluator for adults by the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).
Ms. Sommers has spent 17 years of her career working with adults who have sexually offended. She initially spent several years treating sex offenders as a clinical therapist and thereafter a clinical director of a local treatment program (consisting of two site locations). She has been identified as an expert witness in county courts.
Ms. Sommers joined Stephen Brake and Associates in late 2015, working alongside Dr. Stephen Brake. In that capacity, she conducted numerous evaluations on adults who have sexually offended.
Dr. Stephen Brake received a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. He is a licensed psychologist and listed as a SOMB evaluator for adults and juveniles.
Dr. Brake has 30 years of experience working with offenders, conducted hundreds of assessments, served as a clinician or consultant with several treatment and judicial agencies, and has been qualified as an expert witness in federal, state, and county courts.
Dr. Brake served on the SOMB Board for eight years. He was instrumental in the writing and implementation of the SOMB Standards and Guidelines
Dr. Brake was awarded (in 2023) the Gary Burgin Sex Offender Management or Treatment Leadership Award. This award honors those who exhibit the attributes of effective leadership and who's efforts resulted in positive change and significant conditions to their community in sex offender management or treatment.
